Black. White. 2

Okay so now I am here to review last nights episode of Black. White. Before I go another further I have got to say my views have nothing to do with Blogger.com. Also to all the white people out there who are real (including my white friends) this review does not have any reflection on you.

Okay so I am still tripping off of a couple of things that occured on last nights show. I took major offense to Bruno's description of our black churches. I have got to all cap this...WE ARE PRAISING GOD when we dance like you saw. IT IS NOT CHEERING NOR IS IT A PEP RALLY!!! You are so going to pay for that comment. I mean he has big balls to say what he said. I mean really he acted like he was at a high school football game and I felt for Brian & Renee. I think the disrespect began during the dialect coaching.

During the coaching between Carmen & Renee, Carmen said "Yo Bitch" to Renee and of course Renee was not receptive to that. But then again if you know black you know the words NIGGER & BITCH can possibly get you killed. Now I don't believe Carmen really meant it. I think she may have heard that was a way that black woman talk to each other. No excuse but just when you don't know and bother to ask you can assume and most times that is wrong. But from that point on it really drew a line between the relationship (what little there was) they had.

But revenge is sweet because when it was known that Bruno & Carmen were going to a black church in black face Renee did get her back. It happened during the moment that Renee & Carmen went shopping for something to wear to church. As much as Renee did say she wouldn't wear what Carmen had picked out to church she didn't stress the fact that is was a little too much by her standards. Carmen at that point showed me that what she thought she knew about being black was not what being black really was. Now don't get me wrong I am not knocking her for her choice of clothing but what I am trying to say is we (Blacks) have so many demensions to our culture and who we are that when asked "What is it like to be black?" or "Tell me something interesting about you culture?" it is quite the challenge to combine it all in one description.

Another interesting point that was brought up in a dialog about the show is this:

*SIDE NOTE* I did think about this next one but it was a surface thought.

With all due respect to Ice Cube and others behind the show it is clear that the white couple isn't truly being exsposed to REAL LIFE BEING BLACK but in the same token we (Black people) are not truly being represented by the black family chosen. Living in the same house in surburban Cali is truly not allowing both families to gain first hand knowledge about the others culture and lifestyle.

One thing I knew that was going to happen is the daughter cracking and really exsposing herself for who she really was. I could sense it from the beginning of the series. She in my eyes really has a true desire to learn black culture and lifestyle. She also struck me as knowing that wearing a fake face would not allow her to gain full knowledge or respect of our race so I do tip my hat to her for following her heart in this.

In closing I will say this...The show in some small way has made me think. Think about the times that racism was a factor in certain situations in my life. It has made it more clear to me that it is more of a mental thing now. Either way it is still wrong. It has showed me that after some of us get to a certain age we all of a sudden become "specialist in something" and give up the desire to learn as is the case with both adult couples. They could take a page from their children and learn quite a bit. I hope & pray this...even though the show is trying to encompass our races as a whole, even though the show is trying to make it seem like these couples are the voices for the race, that we all just take one minute to reflect on what we have seen and find some way to resolve racism. It has been the cancer to life as we know it.

These are just a few of my opinions. More to come so stay tuned.
